TIMBER FRAMES

We build traditional timber frame structures, originating from central Europe. Our frames are crafted with premium quality timbers shipped directly from milling facilities in Western Canada to our manufacturing facility. Most of our projects are built with graded #2 and better kiln-dried Douglas Fir or White Pine timbers. We proudly craft our timbers to the finest details in our shop with the latest Mafell hand machinery lineup. Every single framing member is cut, mortised, tenoned and notched to exacting precision, and then pre-varnished and stained. The full frame is hand assembled piece by piece on the construction site. After the frame is raised, we finish each exterior sheaving layer individually for greater strength, contrary to many other companies that wrap the entire freestanding frame with the SIP (Structural Insulated Panels). We feel our method of finishing the exterior of your home is far superior to SIP.

We overhang the roof rafters to the desired and ideal length to protect the complete home and extend its durability. On top of the rafters, we install finish-coated tongue and groove (T&G) paneling, putting the last touches on the exposed cathedral timber ceiling. We offer the choice of clear coated or slightly stained white T&G paneling, imported from Europe. After the ceiling is completed, we add a full layer of eight inch Durafoam on top of the ceiling, which gives a minimum insulating value of R-32, depending on the angle of the roof. Finally, we either apply plywood sheeting to the roof for asphalt shingles, or vertical and horizontal one inch strapping for metal roofing.

The walls of the frame are insulated with R-20 glass wool and fully sealed with a vapor barrier. The interior walls can then be finished with either T&G paneling to match the ceiling, or any other wall finishing product. The exterior walls can be finished in several ways including traditional wood siding, maintenance free bricks, Nova brik or vinyl siding, etc.
